Job Summary
The Legal Counsel is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of leasing documentation and managing the corporate lease portfolio for all retail stores across Canada.
Key Accountabilities
- Review deal summaries prepared by real estate brokers;
- Draft and negotiate offers, leases and amending agreements for stores across Canada;
- Review and negotiate non-disturbance agreements, estoppel certificates and similar agreements;
- Provide legal advice with respect to occupancy issues;
- Serve as a key partner in the development and execution of client’s corporate real estate strategy; and
- Solve legal or business problems related to the lease portfolio quickly and effectively while working in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
Job Requirements
- Members of a Canadian Bar and between two (2) and seven (7) years’ experience with a specific focus on retail leasing;
- Prior relevant experience in private practice and/or legal department of a retail organization or landlord leasing department;
- A collaborative team player who is adaptable, agile and thrives working in a dynamic business;
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to deal with multiple tasks and changing priorities;
- Ability to work autonomously, self-directed;
- Keen attention to detail;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Demonstrated skills in relationship building; and
- Demonstrated confidence, commands authority through knowledge and expertise.
