Greenhouse Manager
Primary Job Duties:
Create plans for planting, growing, harvesting, and cleaning for 3-season production.
Prepare and maintain operations for greenhouse water and growing systems.
Determine the type and quantity of plants to grow in the greenhouse(s).
Establish effective procedures to coordinate, plant, maintain and manage all aspects of seeding, fertilizing, watering, lighting and temperature control.
The complete responsibility for all greenhouse activity is to maximize the ability to produce what the greenhouse can output.
Analyze and maintain the physical, chemical and biological processes of the soil in the greenhouse(s).
Perform routine detailed inspections of crops for timely identification of problems and growth control.
Monitor crops for problems including, but not limited to, pest management, status of greenhouse equipment, and coordinate with the General Manager specific adjustments and proper corrective actions.
Maintain necessary records and growth log for tracking climate settings, changes, spraying, biological introductions, irrigation cycles and other important factors relevant to each product.
Review daily and weekly greenhouse production performance and communicate as necessary to the General Manager.
Safe handling and application of chemicals, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides.
Establish proactive practices and procedures to ensure efficient and optimized production.
Implement and maintain safety, operations, and procedure manuals for the greenhouses following the proper legislation.
Establish effective relationships with key stakeholders and other partners.
Ensure operations and maintenance plans are executed to a professional standard.
Assist the General Manager in evaluating the need and justification for new equipment, mechanization or improvements in technology.
Provides training to other staff to perform required duties to ensure systematic back-ups are developed.
Stay up to date and cross-trained in all accountabilities as may be directed by the General Manager.
Qualifications:
A degree, or certification in agriculture, greenhouse production, horticulture or a related field.
Experience or certification from the Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association is a plus.
Advanced understanding of horticulture and various types of gardens specific to a greenhouse.
Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain a culture of exceptional customer service.
Demonstrate ability in staff management and supervision, and facility management.
Ability to establish effective relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
Familiar with applicable legislation (Occupational Health and Safety).
CPR, First Aid Training, and a valid driver’s license.
Ability to manage environmental control systems and inventory tracking.
Collaborative team members are ready to multitask and assist across all areas as required.
