Your new role

  • Provided thoughtful and comprehensive coverage analysis on all new matters and acted as a resource to the underwriting team for wording and account reviews.
  • Delivered timely direction to independent adjusters in the investigation of claims for specific lines of business, while collaborating and building consensus with policy co-subscribers as appropriate.
  • Utilized experience and gathered information to evaluate financial exposures and negotiated appropriate, timely resolutions on assigned claims across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Partnered with internal and external counsel to set and pursue effective, cost-efficient litigation strategies for claims in litigation, including active participation in mediations and settlement conferences.
  • Coordinated and managed communication with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Underwriting, brokers, reinsurers, external vendors) to ensure the highest level of customer service, including participation in new account and renewal meetings as required.
  • Consulted with and reported to Claims Management and Claims Legal on large losses and contentious coverage matters, ensuring all steps were taken to achieve the best outcome.
  • Maintained file notes, prepared internal reports, ensured timely reserving, issued payments, and set electronic file diaries in accordance with best practices guidelines.
  • Identified, monitored, and reported on emerging trends within the insurance industry and legislative changes.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Minimum of 7 years handling litigation claims for Casualty and/or Professional lines of business.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Commercial General Liability (CGL) and Errors and Omissions (E&O) policy wordings.
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable qualification.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation obtained or in progress (preferred).
  • Superior customer service orientation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-organized with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Highly collaborative and excels in a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
