We are recruiting for a Civil Construction Manager to work with our client in Toronto.

The company is recognized across Canada as a leader in the infrastructure industry. Due to continued growth and progression planning, they are excited to hire a Civil Construction Manager to join their team in Toronto.

Your new Role

Reporting to the Project Director, the Construction Manager/ General Superintendent plays an integral role in managing the day-to-day operations of a major infrastructure, joint venture project in Toronto. Your day-to-day will be to, plan and oversees the execution of construction operations, including workforce and equipment; cost management and project controls; manages and oversee the performance of key subcontractors to ensure work is executed according to project safety and quality standards; manages key relationships with subcontractors, local unions and joint venture partners; Strong Understanding of commercial terms and subcontractor responsibilities; Ensures that all activity on the designated project is consistent with corporate and divisional strategic plans, business plans, policies, and procedures; Resolves project-level legal disputes and escalate issues to Project Director; Performs other duties and responsibilities as required

What you’ll need to Succeed

To succeed as a construction manager you will bring: education to include technical college diploma or a combination of technical training and/or related experience; minimum of 5 years of experience in an operational leadership role such as Project Manager, Construction Manager or General Superintendent; Construction experience working on heavy civil infrastructure projects, foundations and/or LRT; Strong understanding of geotechnical construction principles; Experience working with local unions, understanding of union agreements and labour law; Experience with planning and executing work while honouring safe work practices and quality standards; Experience with joint venture projects an asset; Experience in planning, scheduling, resource balancing for a variety of sizes of projects; Experience with contract management, strong commercial acumen; Proven leadership, communication, and negotiation skills; Ability to resolve project disputes with minimal assistance; Ability to inspire and foster an environment of cooperation between different departments and co-workers; Ability to collaboratively work within both an office and site environment; Sound computer skills – MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Project required; Self-motivated with good organizational skills; Ability to work independently, accurately and under pressure; Able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
