Smart Building Control Engineer

Our client has an immediate opening for a motivated Smart Building Control Engineer to be part of their Integration and Solution Deployment Team in Vancouver.

This role is best suited for an individual who has controls, electronics, IT/OT or similar technical credentials with previous experience in the HVAC controls industry. Preference will be given to candidates with controls, software, and IT/OT Network experience and suitable candidate will have proven HVAC design knowledge, HVAC controls knowledge along with experience in software development and building network integration.

In your new role as a Smart Building Control Engineer, you will work to implement new and advanced integrated technology solutions for the company. Working closely with the sales team to vitalize conceptual and out-of-the- box solutions for initially complex integrated solutions for building systems with the goal of efficiency, operational cost reduction and energy saving while actualizing ESG (Environmental Social Governance) initiatives.

Position Responsibilities Include:

Smart Building Control Engineer General:

  • Complete Integration Solutions of diverse Building systems ranging from BAS, Refrigeration, Lighting, Power Systems, Metering, EV Charging, Solar, battery, Fire, Security and others.
  • Completing Integration and solution binding application work utilizing Rest API, MQQT, JSON and other formats to enable IOT data sharing and secure data transfer.
  • IOT Engineer in other verticals like smart agriculture, etc.
  • Network and IT Solution Architect
  • Work within virtual environments, setup and configure to enable IBMP’s and BEMS technologies. Work with software providers to ensure collaboration of data and database management.
  • Bench Testing and documenting the prototype configuration testing.
  • Commissioning of tested solutions in real life applications
  • Discovery of existing system conditions and compatibility with designed solution.
  • New integration job start-up and integration testing & validation as needed
  • Cybersecurity and hardening
  • Providing engineering feedback and solution preparation
  • Building operator training and owner demonstration of application

Programming Engineer General:

  • Complete Standard Program for an application for BAS and IBMP solutions.
  • Application specific programming and complex graphic deployments requiring coding
  • Driver and integrated applications development
  • Verify and ensure all bench-tested solutions are deployed and completed correctly and where necessary, complete technical in-field adjustments to complete deployment.
  • Ensures and reports on project progress to accountable management and project deployment team

Integration Service Projects:

  • Provides support and training for Operational team and assists with onboarding of customers
  • Assist and provide support for retrofit upgrade Sales team and present new opportunities realized from site conditions
Human Resources:

  • Participate in recruiting and hiring when necessary. OC has a referral bonus incentive.
  • Ensure and endorse positive relationships between various teams.
  • Work to ensure a positive work culture in the company and build lively team collaboration
  • Provide expertise and input to generate Integration solutions for new and existing customers.
  • Representing company with customers and industry stakeholders

Required qualifications or competencies:

  • Control System and BAS expertise and Integration experience
  • Building Communication Protocol expertise with BACnet, Modbus, RS485, OCPP and other industry standard protocols
  • Network and IT setup and configuration competency and troubleshooting
  • Software programming competency with Niagara 4, Niagara AX, Distech EC-gfxProgram, LUA, CCT, NodeRed etc.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages and REST API, JSON and/or MQTT
  • Strong understanding of building system operations
  • Familiarity with LPWAN (low powered wireless) and the communication protocols associated
  • Awareness of cybersecurity and hardening standards like ISO 27000 series, NIST, etc.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in HVAC or related fields
  • Willingness to learn new skillset and explore new opportunities and applications
  • Openness to attend new training and seminars to acquire new skills
  • Experience within service environment and customer relations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated, driven, detailed-oriented and well organized.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced business environment.
  • Keen to learn and follow through on actions
