Your new role

This organization is hiring a Senior Project Accountant to join its finance team in North York. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role is responsible for overseeing project accounting and financial reporting across a portfolio of construction and engineering projects. The ideal candidate will be a CPA with strong project accounting experience, preferably in the construction sector, and a proactive mindset geared toward growth and collaboration.

  • Prepare and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts for active projects, incorporating budget assumptions, financing schedules, and revenue projections
  • Review contractual documentation to ensure financial reporting aligns with project terms and obligations
  • Generate comprehensive project performance reports, including profitability metrics, timeline tracking, and variance analysis
  • Support year-end close by compiling financial documentation and investigating material variances
  • Deliver monthly financial updates to internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring alignment with partnership agreements
  • Participate in financial review meetings, providing insights on budget status, forecasts, and cost tracking
  • Validate monthly loan draw submissions for accuracy and compliance with financial models
  • Monitor actual project expenditures against approved budgets and flag discrepancies for resolution
  • Collaborate with finance, development, and operations teams to ensure financial transparency and support strategic decision-making

What you'll need to succeed

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) is required
  • Solid background in project accounting or financial analysis, ideally within construction, engineering, or real estate sectors
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail when working with financial data and reports
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP systems (experience with Dynamics is an asset)
  • Understanding of financial controls, compliance standards, and ethical accounting practices
