Senior Payroll Clerk - North Vancouver - 6 Month Contract (Potential for Permanent)

Your new company

Our client in North Vancouver is seeking a Senior Payroll Clerk to join their team on a 6 Month Contract basis, which has the possibility of converting to a permanent position. This candidate will be required to work 5 days a week in-office for the first 3 months, which will convert to hybrid after the 3 months. This role involves managing complex payroll operations governed by 6 collective agreements and requires a strong understanding of payroll systems, manual tax remittances, and unionized environments.


Your new role

  • Process monthly and bi-weekly payroll for 500 employees, including mid-month advances based on a 30.42-day pay cycle.
  • Manage biweekly payroll for a subset of unionized employees.
  • Administer union dues and ensure accurate deductions and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit Records of Employment (ROEs) manually via the Service Canada website.
  • Perform manual tax remittances and ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
  • Assist with payroll-related journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation in accordance with company policies and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure alignment on payroll-related matters.
  • Support the transition from JDE to Oracle payroll systems; familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP is considered an asset.
  • Utilize advanced Excel functions (including pivot tables and formulas) for payroll analysis and reporting.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Minimum 3 years of payroll experience, preferably in a unionized and complex environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas).
  • Experience with JDE, Oracle, or other ERP systems is an asset.
  • Familiarity with unionized payroll environments and collective agreements is preferred.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing systems and processes.
