Hays Civil construction team in Toronto are partnered with our client, a leading General Contractor, as they continue to grow, hiring a Senior Civil Estimator to join their team in the GTA.

Your new Role
As the Senior Estimator, you will prepare detailed cost estimates using estimating software, for the full project scope including labour, equipment, raw materials, purchased equipment and subcontractors. You will be responsible for the following; Accurately interpret and comprehend tender drawings and specifications for all projects up to $1 billion; Present all aspects of the project scope, staging, timing, constraints, risks, and potential cost-saving opportunities and alternatives to internal staff; successfully and independently lead a design-Build project through the tender stage, including involvement in team meetings; chair meetings and set project goals; Perform and/or direct quantity take-offs from tender drawings; Prepare initial tender schedule for handoff to field staff; Close tenders; Prepares bid bond and insurance request forms; Maintain files and correspondence on active tenders; Customer follow-up on submitted tenders/proposals; Cost out potential scope of work changes/additional cost/claims situations; Monitor active projects and provide job cost evaluation to management; Provide technical support to field staff; Communicate with field staff and Clients; Assist in maintenance of estimating department policies, procedures and standards; Mentorship of junior employees.
What you’ll need to Succeed
To succeed as the Senior Estimator, you will bring a completed Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Technology. Along with 8+ years of progressive experience in the construction industry as an estimator, you will ideally have experience estimating large scale projects up to 1 billion. You will have experience in design-build estimates and team processes. You must have experience in MTO contracts and/ or municipal works to succeed in this role. You will bring experience using a commercial bidding platform (In Eight Estimate experience is an asset). You will be solid with reading and understanding construction drawings and documents. You will be proficient in Word programs and Excel. You will have a thorough understanding of OPSS and CDED. You are results-driven and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will be detail oriented and capable at critical thinking. You will be a problem solver, and thrive in a team environment.
