A leading Financial Services organization in Edmonton has a newly created role for Senior Compliance Manager in their Edmonton head office.

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Compliance Manager to join our Compliance department. The ideal candidate will be an integral part of our team. This pivotal role will be responsible for overseeing the Company’s Defence programs, ensuring that the Company adheres to regulatory requirements and internal policies, the design and implementation of Compliance policies, processes and other controls that ensure that the company’s Conduct and Reputational Risks are adequately managed, and subsidiary obligations are demonstrably met. The Senior Compliance Manager role will work closely with the Chief of Compliance and various stakeholders across the Company to identify compliance risks, develop strategies for mitigation, and enhance the overall compliance culture. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, demands strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and the capacity to build positive relationships across various teams. This role will be reporting directly to the Chief of Compliance.

Your new role

Key Responsibilities
Compliance Oversight
• As part of the second line of defense, lead enterprise-wide compliance processes, including the Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest, Responsible Person Assessments etc. and maintain in-depth understanding of relevant laws, regulations and best practices affecting the Company’s operations.
• Conduct Head Quarters mandated activities to ensure ongoing subsidiary compliance.
Risk Assessment
• Conduct regular Reputational risks assessments to identify potential compliance vulnerabilities, update the Reputational Risk model and policies and procedures and recommend appropriate action plans.
• Regularly assess the efficiency of the company’s Corporate Defense program as well as conduct risk and reputational risk control systems and recommend effective improvements.
Policy Development
• Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal standards.
• Development and implementation of Conduct Risk related policies and procedures.
Monitoring and Testing
• Design and execute compliance monitoring and testing programs to assess the effectiveness of compliance controls and processes.
Training and Awareness
• Develop, deliver and lead compliance training sessions for staff on compliance matters.
• Provide guidance and support to business units on regulatory policies and procedures as and when required.
• Keep abreast of regulatory developments within or outside of the company as well as evolving best practices in compliance control.
Reporting
• Prepare and present compliance reports and updates to the Chief of Compliance and Senior Management, highlighting areas of concern and recommending corrective actions.
• Prepare submissions and filings with regulatory bodies and steward external reporting and regulatory reviews.
Incident Management
• Manage the investigation of compliance breaches or violations, ensuring appropriate action is taken and corrective measures are implemented.
• Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries and examinations.
Collaborations
• Partner with key stakeholders including legal, risk management, and operational teams to ensure cohesive approach to compliance management and resolution of compliance issues.
• Represent Compliance on regulatory projects and change initiatives as required.
• Assist business units with the design and implementation of operational best practice and process and control improvements.
• Support the Chief of Compliance to monitor adherence to the Code of Conduct, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Key knowledge required
• In-depth knowledge of consumer protection laws, regulations, Bank Act and guidance as well as familiarity with or experience with the Canadian Banking and other regulatory frameworks governing financial institutions.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders across all levels of the Company.
• Ability to gather, synthesize and document compliance-related information.
• Understanding of regulatory and industry best practices relevant to business, including technology implications
• Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills with the ability to develop creative solutions for a variety of emerging organizational and industry challenges.
• Ability to self-motivate and hold the organization accountable to regulatory standards.
• The willingness to share information, provide support, and seek input from others is essential to foster teamwork and drive collective success in achieving the Company’s goals.

• Completion of assigned work with minimal supervision is important.
• Ability to work effectively alongside peers and other stakeholders in the business and contribute to a cohesive work environment.

What you'll need to succeed

Qualification and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in law, Business Administration or a related field.
• A minimum of five years or more of experience working on compliance, audit, legal, or risk management team.
• Experience working in finance, the automotive industry and preferably in the banking industry is an asset.
