Your new role

You will be responsible for leading the health and safety strategy during the construction phase of the Windfall mining project (currently in pre-construction). Your focus will be on ensuring that safety is fully integrated into all aspects of project execution.This role will require regular travel to the site once construction activities begin.

Your key responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the HSSE strategy (framework program, policies, procedures) and ensure the proactive integration of health, safety, security, and environment into all project phases.
  • Advise project teams during engineering and procurement phases to ensure HSSE requirements are considered.
  • Promote an HSSE culture aligned with Gold Fields’ values and act as the HSSE champion for the Windfall Project with all stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to contractors, partners, and internal teams to ensure HSSE objectives are fully understood and applied.
  • Establish and maintain an emergency response plan (and practices), a crisis management system with clear communication protocols, and monitor compliance with permits and environmental commitments.
  • Define and track HSSE performance indicators, analyze results, and implement corrective actions.
  • Act as a representative with the CNESST and the CCQ.
  • Prepare and maintain HSSE reports (weekly, monthly, SteerCo) and represent the project in governance forums, including presenting incidents and mitigation measures.
  • Develop and deploy the project’s HSSE organizational structure (recruitment, coaching, integration with partners/contractors).
  • Oversee the implementation of safety programs, the conduct of incident/accident investigations, and the implementation of recommendations.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees and subcontractors.
  • Implement a permit-to-work system and lockout/tagout procedures in compliance with standards.
  • Ensure strong collaboration and communication with the Operations HSSE Director.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Over 15 years of experience in health and safety management within construction projects, including a minimum of 5 years in Québec
  • Significant experience in implementing HSSE programs for major project(s) in a heavy industrial context
  • Strong leadership skills and a proven track record of fostering a health and safety culture
  • Extensive experience in risk identification and mitigation
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and great attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present to large groups ranging from senior management to field personnel
  • Bilingual (French and English)
