Your new company

We are working with a well-established real estate development firm with over 25 years of experience in designing and building high-quality multifamily communities to find a Project Accountant to play an important support role in the financial success of our exciting projects.

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this is an excellent growth opportunity to build yourself into a future senior in the team in a growing and dynamic company.

Your new role

  • Track financials for development projects, including job costing, construction expenses, operating revenues and costs, capital expenditures, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review internal financial reports, and support the creation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with accounting standards and industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with project managers and senior leadership to develop project budgets, monitor actual expenditures, and provide accurate financial forecasts.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate recording of transactions, including construction-related expenses and vendor payments.
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations and ensure accurate posting of all transactions to the appropriate accounts.
  • Monitor and report on construction and development costs, including labour, materials, and subcontractor expenses, ensuring alignment with budgets and project timelines.
  • Support company and project-level cash flow management, including timely funding, adherence to schedules, and compliance with lender requirements during the draw process.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of real estate accounting experience, specifically in residential and/or mixed-use development projects, with a strong background in development accounting, job costing, and construction accounting.
  • Proficient in SAGE or similar ERP accounting software, with advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to track and reconcile complex development-related transactions.
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, and collaborates well with project teams and senior leadership.
  • Identifies financial discrepancies and opportunities, offering proactive and practical solutions.
  • Thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is self-motivated with a team-oriented mindset.
  • CPA designation or progress toward certification is considered an asset, though not required.
