Program consultant- Case Mix

You’ll be joining Our client, a national organization that provides essential information on Canada’s health systems and the health of Canadians. This role is part of the Case Mix Branch, located in Ottawa or Toronto, and reports to the Manager, Case Mix.
Your new role
As a Program Consultant (Case Mix Consultant), you will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of CIHI’s hospital acute and ambulatory case mix grouping methodologies – Case Mix Group+ (CMG+) and Comprehensive Ambulatory Classification System (CACS).
Your key responsibilities include:
- Leading updates and improvements to CMG+ and CACS methodologies.
- Identifying areas for refinement to improve clinical and cost homogeneity.
- Managing cross-functional teams and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Testing and validating modifications to grouping methodologies.
- Providing guidance to Health Information Management professionals.
- Supporting product alignment with business logic and resource utilization indicators.
- Building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders.
- Supervising and coaching staff to ensure quality and timely deliverables.
- Consulting on technical and methodological directions.
- Presenting findings and documentation to stakeholders.
- Managing project workflows and ensuring milestones are met.
- Ensuring compliance with CIHI’s Privacy and Confidentiality Policies.
What you'll need to succeed
- Undergraduate degree in statistics, health economics, biostatistics, epidemiology, health information, or a recognized Health Information Management Program with CHIM certification (or Québec equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a health-related field using case mix grouping products or hospital classification systems.
- Experience with clinical administrative databases (e.g., DAD and NACRS) and knowledge of abstracting standards.
- Strong understanding of health information standards and classification systems (ICD-10-CA, CCI, ICD-11).
- Familiarity with the needs of Decision Support Analysts using CMG+ and CACS.
- Project management experience in a health environment with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Understanding of Canada’s healthcare system.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
