An engineering firm in Vancouver is growing their team and looking for a payroll manager.
Your new role
The Payroll Manager is a seasoned payroll professional who thrives in a complex, project-driven engineering and construction environment. This individual brings deep technical payroll expertise, strong leadership capability, and a high level of accuracy and accountability. Success in this role means delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll across multiple entities, jurisdictions, and workforce types, while continuously improving payroll processes and controls.
What you'll need to succeed
•Lead and oversee end-to-end payroll operations for a multi-provincial workforce within an engineering and construction environment
•Ensure payroll compliance with federal and provincial legislation, collective agreements (where applicable), and internal policies
•Manage payroll cycles for salaried, hourly, and project-based employees, including overtime, premiums, travel time, and field-based allowances
•Act as the internal subject-matter expert on payroll matters, supporting Finance, HR, and Operations
•Lead, mentor, and develop payroll team members
•Partner closely with HR and Finance on payroll-related reporting, audits, reconciliations, and year-end activities (T4s, ROEs, WCB, benefits deductions)
•Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen payroll accuracy, controls, and system efficiency
•Support payroll system enhancements and integrations (HRIS/ERP environment experience required)
What you'll get in return
•Payroll designation required (CPM, PCP, or equivalent)
•8–10+ years of progressive payroll experience, with demonstrated leadership at the manager or senior level
•Direct experience in engineering, construction, or project-based environments (required)
•Strong working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation across multiple provinces
•Experience managing complex payroll scenarios including project-based work, variable compensation, and field premiums
•Proven ability to lead payroll teams and collaborate cross-functionally
•High attention to detail, strong judgment, and the ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
•Experience with payroll systems within an integrated HRIS/ERP environment (UKG or similar is considered an asset).
