Hays Specialist Recruitment is partnering with a respected organization in the mining sector to hire a Payroll Administrator for a 6 month contract. This position is ideal for an experienced payroll professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment and enjoys supporting both unionized and salaried employee groups. You’ll join a collaborative team where accuracy, discretion, and strong analytical skills are essential.


Key Responsibilities
  • Administer payroll for hourly unionized employees and salaried staff
  • Process payroll transactions such as taxes, ROEs, bank files, and garnishments
  • Educate employees and internal stakeholders on payroll policies and processes
  • Review, verify, and audit employee time data prior to payroll runs
  • Support the administration of employee programs, including group benefits
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual payroll reports on schedule
  • Produce reports required by external agencies in accordance with legislation
  • Serve as a key user of SAP HR/Payroll
  • Assist with testing and validation of SAP configuration changes
  • Draft forms, letters, reports, and memos as needed
  • Maintain and track time‑off spreadsheets and absence data
  • Recommend and support continuous improvements to HR/payroll processes
  • Provide general administrative support to the HR department
  • Assist the HR Manager with routine HR tasks, special projects, and initiatives
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

  • Support the execution of HR and payroll strategies aligned with business goals
  • Deliver high‑quality work while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
Legislative Requirements
All employees are expected to:
  • Apply hazard identification and risk‑assessment principles in all activities
  • Follow relevant Safe Work Method Statements, procedures, and site standards


What You Need to Succeed
  • Minimum 5+ years of payroll experience in a similar role
  • Post‑secondary education in business, administration, or human resources
  • SAP experience —
    asset
  • PCP Certification —
    asset
  • CEBS Certification —
    asset
  • Experience in a unionized and/or mining environment —
    asset
Skills & Knowledge
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure
  • Proactive, reliable, and adaptable team player
  • Ability to anticipate needs and take initiative
