We are working with an award-winning civil construction company, looking for a Payroll Manager to oversee all payroll and benefits administration for both unionized and salaried employees. This role involves managing the entire payroll process, ensuring compliance with Canadian laws and collective agreements, and handling employee benefits and pension contributions. The Payroll Manager will also support audits, reporting, and year-end filings, maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and confidentiality in all payroll operations.

Your new role

  • Manage payroll for approximately 300 hourly employees (across multiple unions) and 100 salaried employees
  • Oversee full-cycle payroll processing using Sage 300 CRE (Timberline)
  • Transition from paper-based timesheets to digital platforms, providing support to field staff
  • Administer employee benefits (health, dental, pension), including enrolment, deductions, and remittance
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian payroll legislation, including statutory deductions and CRA remittances
  • Interpret and apply union collective agreements, ensuring compliance and managing union remittances
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll account reconciliations
  • Prepare and manage government reporting requirements, including Records of Employment, Employer Health Tax, WCB reporting, and garnishments
  • Support external payroll and compliance audits
  • Oversee year-end payroll activities, including preparation and review of T4s and related statutory filings


What you'll need to succeed

  • PLP Designation preferred
  • 10+ years payroll experience with a preference in a unionized environment
  • 4+ years experience in a management position
  • Solid foundation in accounting, with a degree in accounting or a related discipline being advantageous.
  • High level of attention to detail and a strong focus on process efficiency.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
