Litigation Legal Assistant in Ottawa, Hybrid Work Arrangement

Your new company

Nearly 90 years after it first opened its doors, this mid-sized, general practice law firm continues to thrive and grow.

This mid-sized law firm recognized for its litigation excellence, collegial culture, and commitment to high-quality client service. The firm offers an engaging and supportive environment where talented professionals can grow, collaborate, and make a real impact. You’ll be joining a team led by a distinguished senior litigator known for his strategic insight, professional leadership, and extensive trial experience across multiple levels of court and tribunals.

Your new role

As a Litigation Legal Assistant, you will work one-on-one with a senior partner whose practice is focused on complex, trial-driven litigation. You’ll be directly involved in preparing cases for trial, arbitration, and mediation—managing detailed litigation files, drafting pleadings and motion materials, coordinating expert witnesses, and ensuring all filings and procedural requirements are met. You’ll handle client communications, schedule discoveries, mediations, and court appearances, and provide seamless day-to-day support to ensure the smooth operation of a demanding and fast-paced practice.
This position is ideal for an experienced and resourceful litigation clerk who thrives under pressure, enjoys the intellectual challenge of complex disputes, and takes pride in precision and professionalism.

What you'll need to succeed

To excel in this role, you will bring:
  • A Law Clerk diploma or certificate from an accredited institution.
  • 5–7 years of experience in litigation law, ideally supporting a senior litigator or trial lawyer.
  • A solid understanding of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure, Construction Act, and related litigation processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Outlook, Adobe Pro, GhostPractice, ACL, and Philips SpeechLive.
  • Experience with e-filing through Justice Services and Case Center, and familiarity with Superior Court, Small Claims Court, Federal Court, and tribunal procedures.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple competing deadlines independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, discretion, and professionalism in dealing with clients, counsel, and the courts.

What you'll get in return

You’ll have the rare opportunity to work closely with a highly accomplished trial lawyer whose practice spans high-stakes, multifaceted litigation. In this dynamic role, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience, professional mentorship, and exposure to the full spectrum of trial preparation and courtroom strategy. The firm offers a competitive compensation package, a collegial and respectful work environment, and ongoing opportunities for professional growth within a team that values excellence and initiative.

Base salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $70,000-85,000, 4 weeks of vacation, RRSP matching, benefits from day one.
