Your new role

As a Legal Assistant, Employment and Labour, your key responsibilities will be:
  • Preparation of motion records, Affidavits of Documents, Bills of Costs
  • Preparation of mediation briefs and Pre-trial Conference Memorandum
  • Review transcripts and prepare a list of outstanding undertakings and refusals
  • Complete organization of files and filing all documents in their corresponding file folders
  • Scheduling of appointments, examinations for discovery, mediations, daily correspondence, and daily telephone inquiries with clients and opposing counsel.
  • Organizing and maintaining a bring forward system to ensure that all limitation periods are met,
  • Prepare and complete all necessary documentation for a litigation practice, including affidavits, motions, factums, briefs of authorities, pleadings, etc.
  • Independently manage a busy litigation practice and communicate professionally with clients
  • Work on projects and other duties as required.
What you'll need to succeed

  • Minimum 3 years litigation experience, preferably in a law firm
  • Must have completed a community college legal assistant course
  • Excellent knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and all levels of Court procedures
  • Experience with court scheduling and filing
  • Strong computer skills, ACL, Elite 3E, and other Microsoft Office software’s
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented with the ability to work well in a busy team environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize, and multitask
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, dicta-typing and proofreading skills
