Your new role

As a Junior Property Accountant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including profit and loss and balance sheets
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end journal entries
  • Performing bank reconciliations and managing banking transactions
  • Maintaining general ledger and working paper files for all properties
  • Preparing management accounts and supporting documentation
  • Ensuring internal controls are upheld and sensitive information remains confidential
  • Managing compliance with financial reporting requirements
  • Calculating and preparing tax payments
  • Reviewing and maintaining job cost accounting for projects
  • Assisting in the preparation of project and operational budgets
  • Developing cash flow projections and financial forecasts
  • Collaborating with external accountants on year-end files for corporations and partnerships
  • Supporting other property accountants and clerks as needed
  • Contributing to a collaborative office environment by assisting team members across departments

What you'll need to succeed

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • A degree in accounting or a related field, with progress toward an accounting designation.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within real estate or property management.
  • Strong understanding of ASPE (and IFRS is a plus).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and familiarity with accounting software like Spectra and Yardi.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • A high level of accuracy, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently and collaboratively.
