Internal Controls Consultant

Your new company

This Non-Profit organization is seeking an Internal Controls Consultant
to support key finance and audit initiatives, including purchasing process improvements, capital asset reconciliation, flow-through invoice reconciliation, and document migration. This role requires a strong background in internal controls, financial accounting, and system implementation, with the ability to work independently and resourcefully in a fast-paced environment.


Your new role

1. Purchasing Process Improvements
  • Gain a deep understanding of Tipalti’s Purchase Module & functionality.
  • Design and update the companies purchasing process to include 3-way matching
    and ensure proper segregation of duties.
  • Propose updates to purchasing policies and procedures (e.g., PO required for purchases over $5k).
  • Liaise with Tipalti’s Implementation & Customer Support Team.
  • Develop and deliver training materials for management on updated purchasing processes.
2. Capital Asset Reconciliation
  • Reconcile the capital asset subledger and continuity schedule to address discrepancies in categorization and amortization periods.
  • Match subledger records against physical inventory lists to ensure accuracy of accounting records.
  • Draft adjusting journal entries for Finance Manager approval.
3. Flow-through Invoice Reconciliation
  • Review flow-through services (e.g., network circuits) to ensure
    revenue received from clients matches expenses paid to vendors.
  • Update financial records to align terminology with other departments.
  • Identify invoicing mismatches and propose corrective actions (e.g., supplemental invoices, credit memos).
  • 4. Document Migration
  • Lead the migration of financial records from Confluence Wiki to SharePoint.
  • Inventory existing documentation and determine required migration with Finance Manager.
  • Collaborate with IT staff to execute migration.
  • Ensure migrated documentation meets financial audit requirements.


What you'll need to succeed

  • 3–5 years of experience in internal controls, audit, or financial process improvement.
  • CPA designation or strong financial accounting background preferred.
  • Experience with Tipalti (major asset) and cloud-based system implementations.
  • Solid understanding of purchase-to-pay processes, internal controls, and segregation of duties.
  • Knowledge of capital asset amortization concepts (e.g., half-year rule).
  • Familiarity with AR/AP processes.
  • Previous experience with QuickBooks Online and SharePoint preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to work independently.
  • Resourceful problem-solver with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
