Hays Specialist Recruitment is partnering with a leading organization in the marine and industrial sector, supporting a large unionized workforce. This is a contract opportunity to provide HR expertise and ensure smooth operations during a leave coverage period.
Your new role
Collaborate with the HR team to implement best practices for attraction, retention, and development of employees.
Administer and maintain the Absence Management Program, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and company-specific leave policies (including STD, LTD, and personal leaves).
Assist in resolving conflicts and performance issues with union employees.
Support HR Business Partners with Respect in the Workplace investigations.
Provide interpretation of collective agreements when required.
Serve as a trusted advisor to operations, offering guidance on complex HR challenges and employee relations.
Note: Approximately 80% of this role focuses on absence management.
What you'll need to succeed
3–5 years of HR experience in a unionized environment.
Strong background in absence management and handling high-volume cases.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing priorities.
Knowledge of HR best practices in recruitment, compensation, performance management, and conflict resolution.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to manage multiple stakeholders and sensitive information.
Familiarity with federal and provincial legislation (Canadian Human Rights Act, Employment Standards, Canada Labour Code, etc.).
Experience interpreting collective agreements and managing employee relations.
Oracle experience is an asset.
