Financial Controller position with US expansion

Your new company

A leading retail group with over 35 stores across Canada is expanding into the U.S. market — and we’re looking for a Financial Controller to lead and build the financial infrastructure for this exciting growth phase.


Your new role

This is a high-impact leadership role, reporting directly to the Group CFO and working closely with the Canadian Financial Controller. You’ll be responsible for setting up financial systems, managing a small team, and driving operational excellence across U.S. retail operations.

  • Establish and implement financial structures, processes, and controls.
  • Manage end-to-end accounting activities, including AP, AR, fixed assets, inventory, general ledger, LC, DP, account setup, and petty cash.
  • Oversee month-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis.
  • Collaborate with T&T Canada and LCL teams to develop policies ensuring asset protection, accurate reporting, and compliance with US financial standards.
  • Coordinate with LCL/GWL treasury teams on fund flow setup and movement.
  • Act as primary liaison for internal and external audits, providing documentation and explanations.
  • Set up and review US sales and use tax processes; oversee filings.
  • Prepare financial and compliance reports for auditors, regulators, and business partners.
  • Support LCL/GWL tax team with annual tax package submissions.
  • Lead and mentor the US Accounting team, fostering growth and development.
  • Drive team performance and cultivate a collaborative, high-performing culture.


What you'll need to succeed

  • CPA designation with 5+ years in senior finance leadership
  • Experience in retail or supply chain/manufacturing
  • Strong systems mindset and hands-on approach
  • Fluent in English, Mandarin/Cantonese is a strong asset.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
  • Lead month-end closing, reporting, and compliance (US GAAP, IFRS, IRS)
  • Oversee AP, AR, inventory, and general ledger functions
  • Build and optimize workflows and ERP systems (Sage now, SAP in future)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across North America
  • Travel occasionally to U.S. locations (Seattle, San Jose, SF)
