Electronic Warfare Engineering Lead – Shaping Defence Innovation Through Advanced Simulations.

As the Electronic Warfare Engineering Lead, you will be a subject-matter expert (SME) and provide EW consultancy within a leading Canadian defence technology company specializing in advanced software solutions for military applications. You will guide the development of EW Modelling and Simulation, Mission Planning, and Analysis tools, while mentoring and growing a team of EW professionals. This role bridges technical leadership with strategic input, supporting business development and product innovation.

You will also contribute to the broader business by working closely with the Capability function to identify emerging technologies, assess operational gaps, and influence the direction of EW product offerings.

This is a hybrid role based in Ottawa, with occasional domestic and international travel to support customer engagements and demonstrations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Mentorship
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the EW team to grow internal expertise in the EW domain.
  • Provide technical direction and review for EW-focused projects and initiatives.
  • Champion knowledge sharing and continuous improvement in modelling and simulation practices.

Subject Matter Expertise
  • Provide EW SME support across the business, including engineering, product development, and business development functions.
  • Offers insights into real-world EW systems and operational concepts, including Electronic Attack (EA), Electronic Protection (EP), and Electronic Support (ES).
  • Serve as a key technical resource for internal and customer-facing engagements.

Product & Capability Development
  • Contribute to the evolution of EW software tools, including physics-based modelling and simulation of RFCM and IRCM.
  • Support the development of mission planning and analysis solutions aligned with user needs and evolving operational threats.
  • Identify and help develop new capabilities to address identified gaps in the market.
  • Advise on opportunities for internal investments, R&D, and partnerships.

Customer Engagement
  • Deliver product demonstrations to customers.
  • Provide expert guidance on applying EW tools to modern operational scenarios.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong background in modelling and simulation of electronic warfare systems and sensors, particularly:
    • Radar
    • Electronic Countermeasures (ECM)
    • Electronic Support Measures (ESM)
    • Electro-Optics (EO) and Infrared (IR)
    • Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM)
    • Weapon system analysis and threat vulnerability assessments
  • Expertise across the EW spectrum (EA, EP, ES).
  • Awareness of open-source intelligence relating to EW and threat systems.
  • Strong communication and mentoring skills, with the ability to explain complex topics to diverse stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for customer support and business development.
  • Postgraduate degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of defence systems across air, land, or naval platforms.
  • Experience with EW operations, including mission planning and command & control (C2).
  • Familiarity with threat systems relevant to Canadian, NATO, and allied military forces.
  • Military background or familiarity with military doctrine and operational practices.

Security Clearance
Given the nature of the software development work, it is a condition of employment that the successful candidate receives the required security clearances. Successful candidates must be eligible for Controlled Goods Regulations Program (CGRP) government clearances and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). In addition, candidates must be able to obtain a Canadian Industrial Security Clearance to NATO SECRET level.

In general, to obtain these clearances, you:
  • Must be either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
  • Must have lived in Canada continuously for the past 10 years;
  • Must not have a criminal record.
