Design Engineer

Our client’s growing company has an immediate opening for an experienced Design Engineer to join their team.

This role is best suited for an individual with Mechanical Engineering or Controls Engineering credentials with previous experience in Controls and proven HVAC design knowledge.

Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer works closely with other design team members and more senior engineers and performs design-related tasks, including Project Engineering drawing preparation, submittal package preparation, construction package and wiring diagram preparation, As built package preparation, part order placement, site status tracking and completion of any related tasks to make sure the engineering requirements are met and project is ready and proceeding as planed for construction, provides regular updates to Design Engineering Manager and is in continuous communication with project management office, field electrical team during construction phase as well as providing support for controls field engineers and other team members.

Position Responsibilities Include:

•Attend sales to operations project kick-off and handover meeting
•Work in team with more senior design engineers and design engineering manager on assigned
projects
•Review required documents (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, etc. drawings sets, equipment shop drawings and project specifications) for application engineer controls drawing submittal/shop drawing and IFC including the required wiring diagrams.
•Ensure field red lines are incorporate into final as-built
•Value engineer material selection in accordance with optimal application adhering to specifications and company standards
•Valve selection in accordance with industry and company standards
•Create material deviation report and prepare and maintain BOM for assigned projects for project management team to facilitate part ordering necessary to complete the project.
•Provide written or onsite assistance to project management to coordinate work with mechanical and electrical contractors (i.e. locations for end-of-riser pressure sensors)
•Provide construction team, programming and start-up technicians with necessary support
•Communicate with engineering manager and project management team feedback on issues expected and any timeline updates and delays expected.
•Update commissioning software from controls drawing for field to provide input
•Bench-test hardware designs that have high quantity, risk or uncertainty
•Review onsite install conditions if existing wiring is to be reused for retrofits
•Create thermostat installer/field controls engineer set-up documentation and tenant user manual
•Ensure that all projects are done on time and on budget communicated by the project management team and accurately as per intended specs, and deviations are reported to design engineering manager/project management team.
•Participate in the weekly design engineering meeting and training programs to improve skills and advance in workplace.
•Contribute to engineering peer-reviews

Required qualifications & competencies:

•Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electronics or Computer Engineering, Technologist Diploma or Master of Engineering in related field
•5-10 years’ experience
•Understanding of HVAC system and electrical fundamentals
•Interested in gaining experience with construction environment
•Eager to learn and improve skills
•Self-motivated, driven, detailed-oriented and well organized.
