Our client is a large importer—exporter / distributor of building materials/ construction materials.
and has a job open for Imports Exports Duty & Drawback Reconciliation Customs Specialist for finished goods inventory imported into Canada and the majority of it exported to the US. The job is based in Mississauga – Brampton, ON area, 5 days a week.
This is a hands-on responsible for maintaining all correct customs HS codes entries / logs of duties paid as well as duties to be withdrawn, given the high volume of exports to the US. This is responsible for creating status update on customs duties, drawbacks and defining SOPs and Best Practices in Customs, related to all imports and exports. This role requires high attention to detail, numbers acumen, strong
financial aptitude, above average Excel and an ability to work with senior leadership in Operations & Finance to streamline processes working on the internal CUSMA.

CCS is very highly preferred. This is NOT a brokerage and hence, experience of imports and export of owned goods managing the broker relationship is a MUST.
Imports Exports Duty & Drawback Reconciliation Customs Specialist will work with internal and external partners across Operations & Finance, fully responsible for all documentation, compliance, regulatory requirements, duty, tariffs, triage, refunds, etc. related to customs for imports as well as exports to the US and ROW. You will analyze existing custom related processes, conducted Root Cause Analysis of any discrepancies, write / revise SOPs and lead the continuous improvement initiatives. This is an internal auditor role focused on custom documentation, records, entries, expediting and liquidating custom entries, clearance of old bonds, letters of credit and similar. You will own the relationship with the broker, manage their performance and improve effectiveness. You will be the SME on HS codes, review data received from brokers, analyze and update ADD and MID # codes and ensure accountability for accuracy. You will be the SME on duty drawbacks — US & Canadian, Canadian Duty Deferral program with CBSA and similar. You will also remain the point of contact for the banks for letter of Credits/ bonds and similar.


Imports Exports Duty & Drawback Reconciliation Customs Manager will ideally have a minimum of 4–5 years as Customs Specialist – Subject-Matter Expert for imports into Canada, Exports to the US & ROW. You would have proven success in improving customs, duty, drawback, CBSA, CBP processes (No exceptions) and would have acted as the internal auditor to work closely with Finance on custom related entries.

Experience of managing brokers is a MUST. Above average MS Excel skills, hands-on, roll-up-the-sleeve attitude, experience with HS codes related to construction building materials and similar
is highly preferred. This is not a brokerage firm, hence working on the internal CUSMA experience is highly important.
Bachelor’s degree, Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Certified Classification Specialist (CCLS), Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement experience are all key.
