Hays Specialist Recruitment has partnered with a leading Oil & Gas company based in Calgary, AB. We are currently hiring a Senior Accountant to join their team on a contract basis of 5 months, which has the possibility of extension. This candidate will be working out of their Calgary office (3 days hybrid, 2 days remote).

Your new role

• Perform monthly accounting activities in SAP, supporting the Treasury team
• Prepare Excel-based financial reports and assist with MD&A disclosures for year-end reporting
• Collaborate closely with the Treasury department on hedging initiatives and related accounting
• Account for the company’s interest rate and foreign exchange derivatives and hedging transactions in SAP
• Work with the Financial Trading team to provide accounting expertise in the practical application of derivative and hedge accounting
• Conduct detailed analysis of various financial statement accounts
• Support ad-hoc analysis and special projects as required

What you'll need to succeed

• University Degree in Accounting (Business/Commerce or related field)
• Canadian CPA designation is required
• Minimum 6 years of progressive corporate accounting experience
• Working knowledge of US GAAP is ideal
• Previous experience supporting trading operations or working in a corporate finance/accounting environment is preferred
• Experience at an accounting firm is a nice to have
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
