Your new company

We have partnered with a well-established real estate development company who are searching for an Assistant Controller in Richmond. They have multiple projects on the horizon with the company going through an expansion.


Your new role

  • Lead and manage core accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll, cash flow oversight, and month-end close procedures.
  • Ensure all financial transactions comply with internal controls and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project accounting records, supporting financial integrity across all initiatives.
  • Prepare and analyze job cost reports, ensuring alignment with project budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Generate and review timely, accurate financial reports, including project-specific statements and consolidated company financials.
  • Develop project cash flow forecasts and provide monthly updates reflecting changes in estimates and timelines.
  • Support financial planning and cost-control efforts for active development projects.
  • Review and approve trade contractor and vendor invoices, ensuring adherence to contractual terms and conditions.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of annual budgets for income-generating commercial and residential properties.
  • Oversee progress billing, holdbacks, and lien releases to maintain healthy project cash flow.
  • Monitor and report financial performance on a per-project basis, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes for new developments and potential acquisitions.
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement best practices to improve operational efficiency.


What you'll need to succeed

  • 3+ years of experience in an accounting role within the real estate development and construction industry is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA designation or close to completion is required.
  • Proactive and self-motivated leader with a strong commitment to supporting the growth of the accounting team and contributing to broader organizational success.
  • Willingness to take a hands-on approach to accounting operations, with demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Proficiency in Sage Accounting Software and other ERP systems is strongly preferred.
