Hays is partnered with a Calgary-based land developer and residential home builder. They are known for delivering thoughtfully designed, high‑quality homes across some of the city’s most desirable communities for almost 30 years. Due to an upcoming maternity leave, they are looking for an Architectural Technologist to their team for an 18 month contract. This role will support a collaborative, in‑house design and construction environment, working closely with drafting, construction, and management teams to deliver high‑quality production and custom home designs. The position offers exposure across multiple residential product lines, with a strong focus on constructability, efficiency, and delivering design excellence within a fast‑paced homebuilding setting. *in office role
Your new role
In your role, your duties and responsibilities will be; producing accurate, lot‑specific construction drawings using AutoCAD (and/or Revit), based on standard plans, customer selections, grading constraints, and municipal requirements. The position prepares complete site plans and full home construction drawing sets across all product lines, including Move‑Up and Estate homes, and carries projects from initial concept through to final, construction‑ready documentation. Working closely with management, the role supports value‑engineering initiatives, plan updates, and ongoing maintenance of stock plans, while collaborating with the Construction team to develop and refine construction details that enhance buildability, efficiency, and quality. Responsibilities also include helping establish and uphold CAD standards and best practices, maintaining and updating the general plan database, managing multiple projects to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with building codes, bylaws, architectural guidelines, development permit requirements, and specifications, and coordinating consultant information to deliver complete and accurate construction documentation.
What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will have completed a post‑secondary diploma or degree in Architectural Technology and bring 3–5 years of experience in the residential homebuilding industry in a design and/or drafting capacity. Strong proficiency in AutoCAD is required, with Revit experience considered an asset. You will have proven experience producing accurate residential construction drawings, efficiently managing revisions, and maintaining documentation quality. A strong understanding of residential architecture, construction methods, and the overall homebuilding process is essential, as well as familiarity with municipal approval processes, development permits, and construction documentation standards.
