Your new company

This organization has been operating since 1973 and is committed to being the most reliable and efficient distributor of wholesale building products in North America. They offer dependable building material supplies from leading manufacturers to meet the needs of their customers’ projects. Whether the customers are in the construction industry, or remodelling a home, they ensure they have the product needed.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading a team of 4–5 accountants, managing the general ledger close process, and preparing consolidated financial statements and analysis for SEDAR+ reporting. Acting as the Controller’s key support, this role provides oversight of both the Accounting and Accounts Payable teams in the Controller’s absence, ensures smooth resolution of system issues, and helps drive the overall effectiveness and value of the Accounting function within the organization


Your new role

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accountants, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger close process to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules in compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., SEDAR+).
  • Perform financial analysis to support reporting, management decision-making, and external disclosures.
  • Act as the primary resource for troubleshooting and resolving system or process issues within the Accounting function.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the Controller’s absence.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards (IFRS/GAAP), and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and maintain data integrity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Operations, and IT, to support business initiatives and process improvements.
  • Assist with external audits, tax filings, and other statutory reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and leverage technology within the Accounting function.
  • Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to team members to support their professional development.
  • Ad hoc duties as assigned.

What you'll need to succeed

  • CPA designation
  • Minimum 1 year in managerial experience
  • Progressive experience in accounting
  • Proficient in IFRS
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to adapt to and learn new software
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Proven track record in maintaining optimal team engagement level.
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work
  • Working knowledge of Great Plains and Bistrack systems is an asset.
