Environmental Advisor - 24 Month Contract - Calgary Hybrid

Hays Specialist Recruitment has partnered with a leading Oil & Gas company based in Calgary. We are currently hiring an Environmental Advisor in Calgary to join their team for a 24 Month contract, which has the possibility of extension. This candidate will be required to work in office 3 days per week.
Your new role
- Lead environmental planning and permitting activities for pipeline and energy projects across all phases: prospecting, proposal, definition, and implementation.
- Provide expert guidance on federal and provincial environmental laws, regulations, and permitting processes, with a focus on Canadian pipeline development.
- Develop and implement strategies for obtaining environmental regulatory authorizations and navigating complex permitting challenges.
- Manage environmental compliance and ensure alignment with corporate HS&E (Health, Safety & Environment) commitments.
- Collaborate with internal teams including land, legal, regulatory, Indigenous relations, and community engagement to integrate environmental considerations into project planning.
- Represent the company in engagements with regulators, Indigenous communities, environmental groups, landowners, and the public.
- Oversee external consultants, including preparing RFPs, evaluating bids, negotiating contracts, and managing performance.
- Develop influence and negotiation strategies to shape regulatory outcomes and address public or legislative scrutiny.
- Maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and consultants to support project success.
- Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery within budget and scope.
What you'll need to succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Earth and Life Sciences, Geography, Public Policy, or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental planning and permitting for energy infrastructure projects.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian environmental regulations and permitting processes, particularly for pipelines.
- Proven experience resolving complex regulatory and compliance issues on major infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage external consultants.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience engaging Indigenous communities and NGOs.
- Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and stakeholder engagement.
- Commitment to client service and environmental stewardship.
