Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Superintendent, Wheels & Electrical to join their growing yet established team at their Acheson Branch (Reman). Your new role

Reporting to the Production Manager, Reman; this position develops, organizes, directs and supervises the Wheels and Electrical remanufacturing services for Reman. Responsibilities include compliance with safety policies, procedures and regulations, the development of standards and procedures, scheduling, cost control, and manpower planning. This position implements company policies, procedures, and establishes wheels & electrical remanufacturing and repair practices. The Superintendent, Wheels & Electrical supervises the activities of subordinates within the functional areas to ensure the effective and timely provisioning of quality services.

  • Ensures full compliance with SMS Safety, Health and Environment Management System and applicable legislation
  • Conducts safety meetings and inspections ensuring the timely resolution of safety concerns.
  • Ensures that employees are aware of the hazards of their assignments and properly trained to safely carry out their duties.
  • Enforces safety rules and procedures.

Coordinates wheels & electrical remanufacturing services within Reman, utilizing a wide variety of equipment, methods, and standards.
  • Ensures activities are conducted within safety, quality, productivity, and cost standards
  • Implements industry “best practices”
  • Drives continuous improvement centered on work flow management, streamlining and/ or implementing new processes/ procedures, monitoring and improving productive use of all resources, ensuring equipment reliability through implementation of proper maintenance tactics, improving functional area productivity, identifying and eliminating functional area waste and defects, and implementing cost reductions.
  • Monitors all remanufacturing measures, resource consumptions, work product, and work schedules to ensure overall plan execution, resource consumptions, timelines, and deadlines are consistently attained or improved upon.
  • Monitors established performance indicators including: variance reports, production reports, quality reports, and injury reports.
  • Develops programs to support and centralize wheel & electrical component repairs and their supply to support SMS requirements through the Acheson Reman Facility.
  • Oversees the Work orders in Progress (WIP) function; follows-up on workorders over 45 days; ensures WIPs are dealt with in a timely manner; liaises with the Production Manager, Reman and the Team Lead, Coordinators

Provides leadership and guidance to subordinates.
  • Leads a dedicated focus in developing a team and streamlining the function of a central component rebuild facility for the continued growth of Reman repair and exchange component programs.
  • Enforces proper training of all reporting subordinates.
  • Directs subordinates in establishing, prioritizing and maintaining service schedules within established policy, procedures and budgets, and according to customer needs.
  • Advises subordinates on compliance with company policies, and adherence to ISO quality control standards.
  • Ensures full knowledge of and implementation of all Standard Operating Procedures and other work practices.
  • Conducts employee performance evaluations.

Exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships internally and externally, with customers and manufacturers.
  • Provides conflict resolution; claim settlement.
  • Markets remanufacturing branch (negotiates with customers and manufacturers).
  • Prepares customer quotations.
  • Serves customers (internal or external) by providing service information and by resolving service problems.
  • Resolves service problems by asking questions and clarifying the customer’s (internal or external) concerns; determining the cause of the problem; explaining the best solution; making the correction or adjustment; and following up to ensure resolution.
  • Prepares reports and quotations as required.

Keeps current on information and technology affecting functional area to increase innovation and ensure Branch compliance. Works closely with peers to share information, best practices, and wins related to efficiency gains, cost management and safety improvements. Provides a safe work environment
  • Monitors and inspects the workplace.
  • Deals with hazards and issues promptly and brings unresolved issues to the next level of management.
  • Ensures all employees on the crew(s) know and understand the safety rules and processes (policies, CP, and SWP’s).
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable measures to observe and enforce those rules and processes which apply to the jobs being performed.
  • Responsible for keeping employee safety training up to date and ensure the training is documented and recorded in the employee file.
  • Brings awareness to safety by participating fully in all Reman and Company safety programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you'll need to succeed

This position is responsible for the Wheels & Electrical remanufacturing service function within the Reman branch. Remanufacturing services can be complex in nature as it relates to heavy equipment and requires highly skilled and specialized people. Position is accountable for trade certification administrative process within the functional area.

  • Position requires a thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair of mining equipment.
  • Requires journeyperson certification in a mechanical or electrical trade or equivalent remanufacturing experience.
  • Minimum 5 – 7 + years’ experience in a relevant role along with a minimum of 2 years previous experience at a supervisory level is preferred (within a heavy equipment dealership environment).
  • Strong ability to plan, develop, coordinate, and direct detailed phases of remanufacturing functions including the performance of the same.
  • Ability to positively affect SMS KPI’s; cost control, efficiency gains, safety, revenue, warranty recovery, productivity.
  • Capable to conduct independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of remanufacturing “best practices”.
  • Also requires knowledge of trade certification administrative process, and OH&S acts and regulations.
  • Position has full supervisory responsibility for Supervisors, in addition to the indirect responsibility for a variety of Trades People (50+), Technicians, Charge Hands, Apprentices and Labourers.
