Construction Estimator job for multi-trade discipline. $90K+ for Eastern, ON based experienced
The Estimator's role involves analyzing costs and preparing estimates for various engineering, procurement, and construction projects. This includes civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical projects. In addition to estimating, Estimators may provide technical and administrative support to project operations, such as monitoring progress, planning and scheduling, and managing project changes. They also provide guidance and mentorship to junior estimators and assist in bid preparation and review.
Responsibilities of the Estimator include preparing estimates for construction projects based on contract bids, schematic drawings, and specifications. They also advise on tendering procedures, analyze tenders, and recommend tender awards. Estimators establish and maintain the tendering process, set up cost monitoring and reporting systems, and coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects.
Other duties include liaising and communicating with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors. Estimators collect and analyze relevant cost information, perform sales calls and visits to potential and existing accounts, and assist in conducting material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs. They identify labor, equipment, material, time requirements, and technical specifications and conduct quantity take-off estimates based on engineering drawings and specifications to support budget development and change management.Competency requirements for the Estimator include effective communication, customer focus, accountability, problem-solving, teamwork, and respect for others. The education requirement is a Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, a college technical diploma, or relevant experience. The ideal candidate should have at least 6 years of estimating experience for construction/industrial projects and familiarity with industry standards and cost estimating software.
The Estimator should be a competent person as defined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. They should also have effective communication and written skills, knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, and be adaptable to changing priorities. The Estimator should possess strong multi-tasking and organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience with JD Edwards software is an asset. The position may require a client security clearance.
