Project Development Engineer - Energy Efficiency (Mechanical)

Your new role
You will work closely with clients and stakeholders to develop unique and sometimes unconventional solutions to provide cost savings and sustainable construction and retrofits using often complex energy infrastructure. Working out of Ecosystem’s Toronto office, you’ll help monitor project performance post-completion to verify energy savings for clients undertaking multimillion-dollar energy solutions projects.

• You would be responsible for reviewing, designing, maintaining, and/or improving the mechanical systems in existing buildings. This would include the heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), Building Automation Systems / HVAC Controls, Boilers, Chillers and associated Mechanical & Electrical systems related to Building Energy Efficiency / Energy Conservation. The role also requires general knowledge of electrical systems.
• Analyze mechanical/electrical/control drawings and perform site surveys to understand the operation of the building
• Gather and analyze client energy bills to identify potential energy savings based on current energy rates and the building’s energy use intensity (EUI)Develop energy conservation measures based on clients’ needs and financial parameters
• Develop and perform calculations using a combination of software and simulations of potential energy savings from the proposed design
• Select equipment based on energy performance
• Prepare project construction budgets and develop financial models
• Provide technical assistance to the Construction Manager during the construction phase of the project
• Monitor project performance to ensure attainment of anticipated energy savings
• Develop technical concepts and associated written documentation required by the Client Acquisition Team and support the Sales Team in identifying clients’ needs
• Participate in internal and external meetings/presentations and nurture client relationships

What you'll need to succeed
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• P.Eng is preferred
• 5 to 10 years of Buildings Mechanical Retrofit, Mechanical Building Condition assessment and Building Energy Efficiency, Energy Audit and Energy Analysis expertise
• Experience with Mechanical Retrofit for existing building projects related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), Building Automation Systems / HVAC Controls, Boilers, Chillers and associated Mechanical & Electrical systems related to Building Energy Efficiency / Energy Conservation.
• Experience with Mechanical systems site reviews and audits
• Experience with Building Performance Audits
• Ability to read and interpret Mechanical & Electrical blue prints, diagrams and schematics
• Strength in applying a combination of theoretical expertise, intuition, past experience, and collaboration with other engineers to solve problems and connect knowledge with actual practice
• Strong communication skills and an aptitude for writing with a willingness to draft reports, present proposals, and communicate directly with stakeholders
