Your new role
As a member of a dynamic development team, the Embedded Software Designer (Low-level Application Software) will be actively involved in designing and developing embedded software for next generation Mobile and Optical Transport products. In this role, the successful candidate will report to the Manager, Software Development.

What you'll need to succeed
What You’ll Do
  • Application low-level interface support
    • Maintain the low-level components of the application software that interface directly with the Linux kernel
    • Add new low-level interface code to the application software as needed
    • Write and maintain application drivers (code that talks directly to the hardware but runs in user space)
    • Implement low-level/hardware interface stub functions as required to integrate 3rd party vendor libraries
  • Networking stack support
    • Maintain application code that configures and controls the Linux networking stack
    • Maintain application code that configures and controls discrete L2 switch chips (basic features only)
    • Maintain application code that implements or interacts with network protocols (e.g. RSTP, DHCP, NTP)
  • Application build system
    • Maintain the existing application build system based on Bash scripts and CMake
    • Make changes as required to the application build system to include new applications and/or platforms
  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • 5+ years of experience designing and developing embedded software
  • Excellent knowledge of the C programming language
  • Good knowledge of the C++ programming language
  • Good knowledge of the Linux operating system and programming environment
  • Experience with the POSIX API and POSIX programming
  • Good understanding of core TCP/IP networking concepts (e.g. ARP, IP routing, DHCP)
  • Good knowledge of the Bash shell scripting language
Assets You May Possess
  • Advanced network configuration in Linux (netfilter, VLAN (802.1q), Bridge)
  • Experience with L2 networking concepts such as VLAN and STP/RSTP
  • Experience with CMake
  • Experience with cross-compiling
  • Knowledge of the Python programming language
