Director of Operations

Our client, an architecture powerhouse and a large multi-discipline firm, is looking for a Director of Operations to join their North American leadership team, stationed out of Edmonton or Calgary. With decades of experience in the industry & multiple award recognitions for sustainability, design, planning & development this is a special opportunity to make an impact on the built environment. Your team will be compromised of architects, engineers, planners and interior designers that work collaboratively across various market sectors.

Your new role
The purpose of this role will be to implement and develop strategies to increase financial & organizational performance for the business units – including up to 100 staff members. A key part of your role will be the development of the company through business and strategic development. You will communicate strategy, direction and objectives for the business and support successful execution of the business through the maintenance of positive relationships with standing and new clientele. You will participate in proposals and client presentations as required and act as a liaison fostering close relationships with clients and your project team. Acting also as a Project Manager, you will be reviewing all project contracts for your team and ensure all deliverables are prepared for the successful completion and ensure there is effective cost management. You will be managing the staff, helping develop the team through having a hand in recruitment, coaching and mentoring – responsible for annual salary reviews and succession planning. The most important part of the role will be with your involvement in the Operations department. You will make adjustments, monitor workload, conduct monthly project reviews, review production methods, analyse monthly expenditures and coordinate with the accounting, HR & IT as needed. You will be representing the company on all point of claims as required for your team.

What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will have an education in either: Architecture or Engineering with formal project management training. You will have previous experience with budgeting, operations and have a good grasp of the architectural or engineering processes, preferably experience working in large-team setting. 15+ years of local experience is required.
