The start of the year has been positive with an overall increase in the global job index from 1.31 in Q4 to 1.65 in Q1. Several regions are showing higher increases in the number of available jobs, confirming our optimism about the global economic recovery.
The industry still has a significant shortage of skilled talent and this shortage will continue to drive compensation packages as companies fight to secure the talent required to drive their business forward.

On behalf of Hays Canada I want to wish LinkedIn a very happy 11th birthday. I can't believe it has been 11 years since LinkedIn opened its doors and have since then changed the way people apply for jobs. I also want to congratulate LinkedIn for reaching the major milestone of over 300 million users. That is an incredible feat and one we should all celebrate. The use of social media, not just LinkedIn, but all channels for how we search and apply for jobs has revolutionized recruitment. As major projects are approved and employer’s confidence increases, there are signs of green-shoots in the natural resources industries in Canada.
Over the last year, we have seen an increase in hiring from employers in Forestry and our Resources and Mining team have just celebrated a record month of activity indicating that the industry is gaining momentum.
