Don’t let the holiday rush beat you - temp coverage is the gift of productivity

HTS Blog: Get the gift of productivity this holiday seasonWe talk a lot about using contingent workers strategically to help complete projects, catch you up on paperwork or administration, or provide needed short-term expertise. However, often clients don’t call me unless they need someone for a few weeks or months.

Is it worth bringing on temporary workers for just a day or a week? It can be – with the right worker.

Your team will be taking long weekends or a week off through the December and January holiday season for family visits, or to enjoy warmer weather outside of Canada. On-going disruption impacts productivity, deadlines, and the stress level of the staff who is left to pick up the slack, but it doesn’t have to. With some forward planning – and the expertise of your Hays contract team – you can find a temporary worker who can hit the ground sprinting.

For example, find a receptionist who is already familiar with your phone system.  Hire a payroll coordinator who has experience with your software and guarantee everyone gets paid on time. Or ensure your marketing plan doesn’t suffer by getting a social media representative to keep your channels engaged.

Or maybe it’s not the vacation you’re looking to cover but the increase in business activity directly influenced by the season – last year we were asked to place four4 workers to help an organization cover extra roles during its participation in the Distillery District’s Christmas Market.
With contingent workers you can make the most of that kind of business opportunity, whether it’s for one month or one day you can find the skills you need.

Don’t assume that productivity has to suffer, or it isn’t worth the time it will take to train a temp.

Contact Hays to discuss how a temporary worker could ensure a seamless transition between your vacationing team and a qualified solution.
