Which industries expect the most IT growth?

Posted by Travis O'Rourke, Hays Canada Director, on Thursday, Jul 14, 2016

Hays Blog: Which industry has the most opportunities for your career? The IT and technology market is considered one of the fastest growing in the country, but where can you get the most career growth, and earn more?

The new Hays What Employers Want guide breaks down which industries have the most opportunities, and which are increasing pay rates in the next six months.

What's your best career move?

IT staffing is highly competitive and demand for experienced candidates continues to grow across a range of  disciplines.

Overall confidence
Most IT employers expect business activity to increase in the next six months, with 77 per cent of employers saying they will be hiring and one-third saying full-time headcount will increase.

Key skills
Technical skills such as development, security, mobile, and database - all of which drive business growth - remain in high demand, but the real insight is in what employers want beyond technical skills. If you've got the business or soft skills to lead a team and influence business decisions then your career could go all the way to the c-suite.

Key industries
Pharmaceutical and medical research companies are growing the fastest, with 53 per cent expecting to increase headcount in the next six months. However, larger sectors such as public and banking and financial services may be experiencing slower growth, but that represents a larger number of roles overall.

Find out more about IT sector trends. Register for the webinar, 12pm August 10.
