I want to personally thank all of our payroll professionals for the work they do on a day-to-day basis.
This week is Canada’s National Payroll Week, an opportunity for us employers to recognize the accomplishments of our payroll practitioners and the impact payroll has on business. I commend the Canadian Payroll Association for leading the charge with this week, as they host many events across the country. According to the CPA, Canada’s 1.5 million employers count on payroll practitioners annually to pay over $850bn in wages and taxable benefits, over $250bn in statutory remittances and nearly $100bn in health and retirement benefits.
Payroll is a growing profession that is becoming more specialized as employers look for candidates with more niche experience. As a result, we are seeing salary increases across the nation. Last year payroll salaries increased by nearly 3% across Canada, and those that are certified can earn $10,000 a year more than non-certified professionals. These are some of the findings from our 2014 Hays Payroll Salary Guide, Canada’s only dedicated payroll salary guide, comprised of insights from over 2000 Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) members.
Having the right payroll team is essential to keeping a happy workforce, how will you celebrate your team this week? Learn how to recruit and retain the best payroll professionals in today’s market.
Talk to your Hays team about your payroll hiring needs, today and in the future.
